600 birds seized in Nipomo cockfighting raid
05-05) 09:29 PDT NIPOMO, Calif. (AP) —
Central California authorities say they’ve broken up a cockfighting operation by arresting three men and confiscating about 600 birds.
Investigators from several law enforcement agencies and the Humane Society raided a farm Tuesday in Nipomo, making the arrests and seizing birds along with spurs and blades used in cockfighting.
San Luis Obispo County authorities say the farm also had a ring where birds may have fought.
Last year, investigators made five arrests and seized more than 1,200 fighting birds at a Nipomo compound.
Dozens of other people have been arrested and thousands of birds seized in recent years in separate raids throughout California.
